FLASHER MODIFICATION FOR LED BULBS:

This nifty little modification eliminates the need for load resistors hacked into the wiring to eliminate “Hyper-flashing”, which is the flasher module’s way of reporting that there is a burned out bulb. By modifying the flasher module to no longer detect bulb outage, there is no need to damage your car’s external wiring.

Acquire GM flasher

Using small flat-blade screwdrivers, carefully pry at the tabs between the case halves. Be VERY careful not to damage the relay inside, or stab yourself.

You will now see the bottom of the flasher circuit board.

You will see that I have removed the black SMT resistor labeled "2003" (200K) shown at the red arrow. You can pry from underneath it with an X-Acto™ knife while heating the pads with the soldering iron. The resistor has a bit of red glue underneath it as well which needs to be cleaned up a bit. You will also see where the trace is cut on the upper left hand part of the circuit board.

Solder in a 260KOhm, ¼ Watt (or smaller) resistor in place of the one the was removed above. You can use the two round solder pads just to the right of the SMT resistor to solder a standard carbon film resistor with insulated leads. Place the resistor flat against the circuit board so that it will fit back into the case. I have chosen to use the proper 1206 SMT resistor for the “stock” look... Solder a jumper wire from above where the trace was cut, down to the ground pin. Be sure to expose the copper trace before soldering by scraping away the top layer.

NOTES: There are two additional separate issues that are in the process of being addressed:
1) When the front 194 corner lights are replaced with LED's, the dashboard turn signal indicator remains dimly lit, even though the directional lights are off. This is caused by reverse current feedback through the 3157 LED replacements. While not a serious problem, it will be addressed in due time after the next issue is dealt with...
2) There appears to be at least two different kinds of 3157 type LED replacement bulbs in circulation. One variant works properly with your Grand Prix, and the other does not, possibly not having a low/high brightness, or doing damage to your car wiring or blowing fuses.
3) APC LEDs are NOT wired properly for your Grand Prix 3157 sockets! Damage may result from short circuits if these LED replacements are used.
